Q: What is NASSA Syllabus that schools are looking for?

A: You may click here to view its content.

Q: Why is 6 years old a good age to start learning swimming?

A: 6 years old is a good age to start swimming because they are developed physically & mentally.

Q: My 4 years old is big in size, and he is as big as a 6 years old boy in his class, can he learn to swim?

A: Well, size does play an important role in learning swimming because most medium sized pools are 1 metres deep. Normally under 1 metre in height is usually considered as small size. These small- built children are normally afraid of water. Even though they are not afraid of water, they are unable to join the rest of the children in doing the same drills (syllabus) expecially in a group lesson.

Q: What if my child is very keen in learning how to swim?

A: Well, that is definitely very good. As a parent, you should bring your child to the swimming pool more often to encourage him to pick up skills such as breathing techniques, floating & water confidence. Never frighten your child by pushing your child to progress faster!

Q: What are water babies?

A: Water babies are just a term used for babies “swimming” in the water. Actually what you see is just the babies holding the breath and coming out to breathe with no proper swimming techniques at all. This term is actually called drown proofing.

Q: Can my child under 5 years old do the breast-stroke or the front-crawl?

A: Majority of children under 5 years of age can't unless they start from a very young age like 3 years old with drown proofing.

Q: My child is afraid of water, how do you overcome it?

A: When your child is afraid of water, you should bring your child to the pool more often, thus overcoming his fear of water, to prepare him for proper swimming lessons.

Q: My child has asthma, can he swim?

A: Swimming helps an asthmatic child through breathing the water vapour on the surface of the water. Dense air ease breathing and swimming helps to develop the child physically without much stress on his lungs.

Q: Will my child get sun stroke while swimming under the sun?

A: It is very difficult for a child to get sun stroke because heat exhaustion is rare since perspiration is almost impossible.

Q: My son can’t swim, what happens if he drinks some swimming pool water?

A: The swimming pool water is safe as it is chemically treated. Although large amount of water might cause diarrhoea or constipation.

Q: I see the swimming pool water has not been changed, will it affect our body when we drink it?

A: Swimming pool water is never changed, it is only topped up due to evaporation, drinking it accidentally will not harm you.

Q: My daughter is growing, she is afraid of male coaches touching her.

A: You should call the police when your instructor touches anywhere above your ankle and above your wrist. Proper teaching techniques will never go beyond this region.

Q: I want to learn swimming and I am an adult but I am afraid to get a male coach to teach me how to swim.

A: If you are afraid to get a male coach to learn how to swim, you should get a female coach. If you need a female coach, do let me know, so that we can arrange you to a female group.
